Bailey Schaeffer, 15, is Inupiaq and was born in
Anchorage and raised 30 miles outside of Kotzebue
in a primarily subsistance lifestyle. She says she
started mushing at a very young age because her
family mushed dogs. She is in 10th grade at Mat Su
Central and participates in soccer. She says she
also enjoys cooking and art.
