About What's Under the Icon at the Top

Hamar males of Ethiopia's Omo region enter manhood by undergoing a ceremony called "The Jumping of the Bull". Hamar elders paint the initiates' faces with ritual chalk designs. Twenty to thirty bulls are gathered together and forced to stand side by side in a long line. Each initiate leps onto the first bull's back, then runs across the backs of the other bulls, taking as few steps as he can. Should he falter or fall, he will be teased mercilessly by women for the rest of his life. Men of the African Ark calendar, Pomegranate
