Alternative Therapy Coverage
Alternative therapies, also referred to as Complementary and
Alternative Medicine (CAM), are quickly becoming more popular and
accepted in today’s society. Yet, they still have not begun to
be accepted as part of traditional medicine and therefore are
generally not covered under a healthcare insurance plan. Alternative
therapies include acupuncture, acupressure, holistic healing,
hypnosis, spiritual healing, chiropractic therapy, and herbal and
vitamin therapies, among others.
If your philosophy about health and wellness takes a more holistic
or experimental approach than traditional medicine offers, you can
look into alternative therapy insurance. Typically, these plans are
only offered through group health insurance packages, and then only
as discount plans (in which you receive a discounted fee for these
treatments, but are responsible for the majority of the expense). As
CAM treatments and health philosophies continue to gain momentum with
patients everywhere, insurance companies will eventually have to meet
patient demand for these services.
