Bio
Age 29
Occupation Business Manager for the Vale of
Glamorgan Local Health Board (NHS Wales)
Type of Motorsport Rallying
First year of Competition 1998
Why did you start? I was brought up with
motorsport as my Dad ran the original Austin Rover
Howells works rally team in the days
when Allegros were considered
state-of-the-art technology! He built my first
rally car for me when I was in University, and got
me involved in the local motor club.
Previous Championships/Competitions Welsh
National Tarmac Championship (Wales & Ireland),
Silverstone Rallysprint series (as a co-driver),
International Tour of Flanders (Belgium)
Best Race Mewla Rally Epynt 2000: After lying
last at the end of Day 1 due to a stage maximum
time following a split incident (I went the wrong
way!), we pulled 67 places on Day 2. We took the
honours for the Best Improved on
Seeding title!
..not our best result,
but probably the most determined drive of our
year.
Worst Race International Tour of Flanders
2001: We were caught out on a fast right on SS3
when the engine cut out midway through the corner.
We hit a concrete lamp-post (knocked it flat) and
retired very quickly! I havent been out of
the dentist chair since as I damaged my jaw in the
impact!
Favourite Circuit/Venue Epynt Ranges
Types of cars competed/owned Competition
Cars Peugeot 205 Gti Grp N ,
Peugeot 205 Gti Grp A
, Subaru Impreza Grp
A, Road Cars Subaru Impreza ,
Lotus 340R
Best car driven/owned Grp A Peugeot 205
the car was the last works built 205 and the
ex-Graham Middleton national championship winning
car. We bought it in a very sorry state(!) from
Graham, and it was re-built for me by Fairfield
Motorsport including a custom-built Tommy Field
engine with close to 200bhp. Its the most
fantastic little car to drive, although very
nervous, and always guarantees a smile!
Any funny stories? Discovering that a well
known local co-driver uses sanitary towels to wipe
the windscreens of rally cars when they mist up
inside in wet weather (apparently something to do
with their absorbency!)
