Sigrid Ekran, 36, was born and raised in Sparbu, Norway. She lived in Alaska from 2003 to 2008 and received her Master’s Degree from UAF in Northern Studies. She began running dogs in 2006 while she lived in Fairbanks and became interested in the Iditarod when she “got two dogs from Team Norway after the 2004 Race.” She ran the Iditarod twice before moving back to Norway to race in Europe. In Europe she ran La Grande Odyssey in 2009, the Femondsløpet in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014, winning in 2011, and the Finnmarksløpet in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015, winning in both 2014 and 2015. She says her current occupation is “Expedition guide and wildlife management.” Her hobbies are hiking, hunting and coffee drinking.

Sigrid is a member of the Innherred Trekkhund Klubb, a Norwegian sled dog club. She says her hobbies are hunting, fishing, and horses.

Sigrid Ekran was born in 1980 and grew up in Norway, where she got a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology. In the summer of 2003 she came to Alaska for a canoe trip, and ended up staying. She started a Masters in Northern Studies at UAF, which she finishes summer ‘07. She started mushing in Norway, but didn't get into racing until she moved to Alaska. She will spend this year training her dogs in Eureka, near Manley. Sigrid is a team member of Will Steger's 2008 Ellesmere Island Expedition through Canada in late March.

2007 - Rookie

Ekran grew up in Norway and came to Fairbanks in the summer of 2003 to study wildlife biology at UAF. She's packed food drops for Team Norway and this year moved to Kotzebue to train with Louis Nelson.

2008

20th as a rookie in 2007. Last year's top rookie returns. Started mushing in Norway but didn't get into racing until she moved to Alaska. Trained with Louis Nelson in Kotzebue last year and in Eureka this year.
